Travelling Allowance(TA) & Daily Allowance(DA) rate for Government employees

TA-DA rate for employees
Government employees are entitled to a certain amount of Travel Allowance & Daily Allowance as per the official rates decided by the authorities. It is an important aspect of employee benefits, and the Kerala government provides its employees with various allowances for their official travel. Table of Contents(toc)

The following article explains the different grades of officers and the respective TA & DA they are entitled to. 

Grade Classification of Government Officers 

For the purpose of Travelling & Daily Allowances, officers are classified into four grades. 

Grade I Officers 

Grade I Officers include those who draw an actual basic pay of ₹ 70000 and above, Heads of Departments, Private Secretaries to Ministers, and All India Service Officers irrespective of the pay drawn by them. 

Grade II(a) Officers 

Grade II(a) officers have an actual basic pay of ₹ 59300 and above but below ₹ 70000 

Grade II(b) Officers 

Grade II(b) officers have an actual basic pay of ₹ 39300 and above but below ₹ 59300. Non-gazetted officers and other last grade servants accompanying the Governor and Ministers are treated as Grade II(b). 

Grade III Officers 

Officers with actual basic pay of ₹ 25100 and above but below ₹ 39300 fall under Grade III. 

Grade IV Officers 

Officers with actual basic pay below ₹ 25100 fall under Grade IV. 

Class of Travel 

Train Journey

The eligible class of travel by train for each grade is as follows: 
  1. Grade I: II AC 
  2. Grade II(a): I Class. If the train does not have I Class, II AC. 
  3. Grade II(b): III AC. If the train does not have III AC, I Class. 
  4. Grade III: II Class 
  5. Grade IV: II Class

Air Journey 

Employees in the scale of pay ₹ 77200-140500 are eligible for flight journeys. However, any employee can travel by air for official purposes provided that Travelling Allowance at the rate sanctioned for their eligible class of travel by train will be allowed for such journeys subject to the production of flight ticket and boarding pass. 

This facility is restricted to the journey of the officer only. Under Secretary to Government will be eligible for flight journey for official journey to New Delhi. 

Mileage Allowance 

Mileage Allowance for road journey will be ₹ 2.5 per kilometre for all grades of officers. 

Incidental Expenses

By Road/Rail

The revised rates of incidental expenses for road/rail journeys are as follows:  
  1. Grade I: 90 paisa per km
  2. Grade II(a): 70 paisa per km 
  3. Grade II(b): 60 paisa per km 
  4. Grade III: 60 paisa per km 
  5. Grade IV: 60 paisa per km 

By Air

The revised rates of incidental expenses for air journey is limited to 1 daily allowance

Daily Allowance(DA) rates

The revised rates of Daily Allowance for different grades of employees are as follows: 
  1. Grade I(Rs 70000 & above): Inside State - ₹ 600, Outside State - ₹ 750 
  2. Grade II(a)(Rs.59300-Rs.70000): Inside State - ₹ 500, Outside State - ₹ 650 
  3. Grade II(b)(Rs.39300-Rs.59300): Inside State - ₹ 500, Outside State - ₹ 650 
  4. Grade III(Rs.25100-Rs.39300): Inside State - ₹ 350, Outside State - ₹ 500 
  5. Grade IV(Rs.25100 & below): Inside State - ₹ 350, Outside State - ₹ 500
