Holiday Declaration by District Collector, Should Teachers go to School?

The collectors of district concerned used to declare holidays to educational institutions under certain circumstances. Such situations arise when there are rain pricky summer, flood, sea erosion, political riots etc. As per the GO(Ms) No. 201/75 PD dated 20-09-1975, it has been made clear that the teaching and non teaching staff of govt and aided school should be present in school even if the collectors of the district concerned has declared holiday. But this order was revised later.

As per the G.O(Ms) No. 143/2007/G.Edn dtd TVM 20-07-2007, if the collector declares holiday, the employees of the govt/aided school need not be present on that day is quite obvious. Certain instructions also have been given in this government order itself. Provided some unavoidable duties like exam, valuation, fair and camps have been arranged in schools on the day govt declares holiday, the teachers must attend such already assigned duties.
